Genre
To start the planning process as well as researching our songs artist Jack Johnson I also researched other artists of a similar or same genre to him. I then researched the artist and a few of their videos, I noticed many of the same features running throughout the videos and concluded that this must be to target the target audience of this particular genre.
Within planning my own music video i took the time to consider other artists of the same genre and how they portray themselves to audiences through their videos. I watched through some videos and noted down what made them unique, successful and also what is seen a lot through the acoustic genres music videos.

The Pitch ...
After choosing our song that we were going to create a music video for, we began to generate ideas. After we had done this we then produced a pitch that contained much of the following information that we presented to our teacher and our class. Here not only did we put our ideas across we also gained some valuable input on things that people thought were good and other things that people thought would not work so well. The original pitch is available to download below .

The Song ...
The Lyrics ...
We had a look through the lyrics of the song to generate some initial ideas for our music video !
The areas highlighted in RED are those lyrics that we felt could create a strong image for the video.
Jack Johnson - Banana Pancakes
Can't you see that it's just rainin'
There ain't no need to go outside
But baby, you hardly even notice
When I try to show you
this song It's meant to keep you
From doin' what you're supposed to
Like wakin' up too early
Maybe we could sleep in
I'll make you banana pancakes
Pretend like it's the weekend now
And we could pretend it all the time
Can't you see that it's just rainin'
There ain't no need to go outside
But just maybe,
Hala ka ukulele
Mama made a baby
I really don't mind to practice
Because you're my little lady
Lady, lady love me
Because I love to lay here lazy
We could close the curtains
Pretend like there's no world outside
And we could pretend that all the time
Can't you see that it's just raining
There ain't no need to go outside
Ain't no need, ain't no need
Can't you see, can't you see
Rain all day and I don't mind
The telephone singing, ringing, it's too early
Don't pick it up
We don't need to
We got everything we need right here
And everything we need is enough
It's just so easy
When the whole world fits inside of your arms
Do we really need to pay attention to the alarm
Wake up slow, wake up slow
But baby, you hardly even notice
When I try to show you this song
It's meant to keep you
From doin' what your supposed to
Like wakin' up too early
Maybe we could sleep in
I'll make you banana pancakes
Pretend like it's the weekend now
And we could pretend it all the time

There ain't no need to go outside

Can't you see, can't you see
We've got to wake up slow

Our Ideas ...
Stop Motion
When thinking of ideas to use within our music video we came across this stop motion video of making pancakes. From my research i discovered that my target audience thought the content of the video should relate to the lyrics. I felt this a perfect opportunity to use pancake stop motion within our music video. Here below is the video that inspired our idea.
Love Story
To relate our video content to the lyrics we decided to include a love story within the video. This would also add in another element of interest and allow us to use characters that the target audience may feel they can relate to as well as the artist. This idea is used widely within music videos of the same genre so is almost a requirement of a successful video. Below is a video with a love story included.
Artist Singing & Instrument
Again as seen in almost every music video we can see the artist singing and even playing an instrument. This was noticeable in the videos of the same genre that i had watched. I believe this will also allow the audience to focus on the quality of the music and is very traditional. Above is a music video that includes an artist singing and playing her guitar.

Character Info ...
Tonteen Smith
Age: 17
My role within the group will be to help plan, develop and create the music video for our project. We decided not to star as actors within our video, so that we could all focus on the camera work and directing the other actors. I will also work with my group to edit the film to the best of our abilities.

Ella Beese
Age: 18
Ella will share the same role as myself within the group. We will work together to develop our ideas and to produce our music video.

James Squires

Again James will be doing the same as both Ella and I, yet James will not be present for some of the filming sessions as of prior arrangements.

James Wragg
Age: 17
James will be playing the role of the artist within our music video. Both Ella and I decided James would suit the part as he is a drama student, lived close by for convenience and had the correct look that we were looking for in our actor. Having an actor from outside of the group made sure we could focus on both filming and directing, taking a lot of pressure away from the group.

Esme Boggis
Age:17
As a group we chose Esme to act within our music video as the artists lover for our interlinking storyline within the music video . As a drama student we felt Esme looked perfect for the role and would make a convincing act.

Location Info ...
Kitchen
![Picture](/uploads/5/2/7/3/5273969/2324890.jpg)
For our stop motion pancake scene we decided upon using a regular kitchen for the backdrop, as it would look the most realistic and authentic. As Ella's kitchen at home was the largest we decided to film here, the only problem would be a short deadline to finish all filming due to her moving house. This meant that we needed to film this section as priority.
Outdoors
![Picture](/uploads/5/2/7/3/5273969/9561451.jpg)
For the scene of our artist playing his guitar and singing we chose to film in a nearby location of Beccles Quay. This meant that we could easily visit the location and it was very suitable for what we were looking for. Alot of Jack Johnsons proffesional videos are also shot outside, therefor our video would fit in well with the genre and previous videos.
Outdoors 2
![Picture](/uploads/5/2/7/3/5273969/3373982.jpg)
As we wanted more than one location outdoors we chose to film our 'love scene' at the Bungay Staithe. This location was easily accessible and nearby. This location also gave us the prop of open water, a bench, a bridge and steps that we were looking for.
Conservatory
![Picture](/uploads/5/2/7/3/5273969/4025075.gif)
We decided that we also needed to film our artist indoors but we would also like to be able to see outside at the same time. We decided upon the use of a conservatory. This was easily accessible and also nearby.
Props Info ...
Guitar
![Picture](/uploads/5/2/7/3/5273969/9227156.jpg?128)
For our artist we needed to find or purchase a guitar, luckily our actor had a guitar so brought it along to filming. Within Jack Johnsons over music videos he is seen frequently with his guitar, this focus' the audiences attention onto the music rather than the action.
General Kitchen Equipment
![Picture](/uploads/5/2/7/3/5273969/1166359.jpg)
For our stop motion pancake scene we needed a lot of kitchen equipment, this was already available within the kitchen so we didn't need to worry about any of these. We would choose brightly coloured equiptment to add interest and another element to the video.
Pancake Ingredients
![Picture](/uploads/5/2/7/3/5273969/4707420.jpg)
The day before we are due to film we need to ensure that all of the pancake ingredients are too hand for our stop motion pancake scene. We will need milk, flour, eggs and bananas. We will also need to actually make the batter and cook the pancakes for use within our filming of the stop moion.
Shooting Schedule ...
Here is my basic shooting schedule that i produced to try and keep on track of time as we have a short deadline.
This is a rough guide that i produced with my group
July - Planning
August 9 - 20 - Film James
August 23 - 27 - Film Stop Motion
September - Last Filming Love Scene Esme
October - Rough Cut
As all members of our group have commitments to work we would not be able to film at weekends, therefore the 6 week summer holiday was a perfect opportunity for us to film ! We had to take every chance we could find to film as it is with great difficulty that all members of the group and cast would be free on the same day. Whilst James Squires was absent on holiday for 2 weeks in the holidays Ella and I filmed the stop motion part of our music video.
