July 12th - Pitch
The Planning for our pitch had begun 2 weeks previously to our actual pitch date, when me, Ella and James began to draft out ideas that we thought would be triumphant in our music video. To make our video as successful and as professional as possible we began by researching our artist ‘Jack Johnson’ and his previous music videos. This helped us to then pick a certain style for our own music video. We composed a PowerPoint presentation with images and key points upon: Audience profile, information on the artist, rough location plans, props, costumes and a shooting schedule. We also looked at video conventions that were present in videos of the same genre. The final part of our pitch was to show an active storyboard of our initial ideas. Where we would film our storyboard and then overlay the music to get a rough draft to illustrate our plans. Unfortunately we were not able to create this in time for our pitch but we did have a regular storyboard to show. I think that our pitch went very well as we were confident and concise with presenting our ideas.
July 27th - Found Actor
At the time of our pitch we had a few ideas upon who we wanted to appear as the main actor in our music video. After a lot of debating between myself and Ella we decided to ask our friend James Wragg to star in our music video. As a drama student we thought that he would be able fulfil the role of the artist and be able to lip sink successfully.
August 13th - Filming James
This was our first day of filming, both James were available and so were me and Ella. We all arrived at Ella’s house at 12 for filming. We had made sure that James was wearing the costume that we had specified to fit in with our music video and had brought an acoustic guitar with us as a prop. We began by setting up the camera in the correct place, then came across our first obstacle, unfortunately James did not know all of the lyrics and the tune well enough to lip sink. To overcome this problem we recorded the song to play out loud as we were filming and printed of the lyrics. We filmed in a variety of locations throughout Ella’s home then we went to the Beccles Quay beside the river to film there. Luckily as the weather was quite wet there were few people around so we did not have a problem with that aspect. I was very pleased with the amount of filming that we had done that day and looking back at the filming we done I was very pleased with the locations and the quality of the filming.
August 24th - Pancake Scene
We had finally arranged another day to film our pancake stop motion scene !! As James was on holiday at this time me and Ella had to find a day that we were both available to film. As Ella was unsure of when she was moving house we had to film this scene as soon as possible. Our first obstacle of the day was working out how to take a still image on our camera. To do this we experimented with the camera then ended up ”googleing” how to take a still image with our camera. After we had discovered how to do this we filmed the flour scene of our pancake making. It was difficult to move the flour carton slowly but we managed to do so, although this scene did take about an hour ! We then filmed our milk scene which was very straight forward. We then experimented with ideas of how to place the eggs into our pancake mix. Neither me or Ella were happy with the filming of the egg scene and decided to leave this part. After making and filming cooking many pancakes we finished our long day of filming. Overall I was reasonably happy with the result of our filming but were pleased with our progress.
August 25th - Fridge Magnet
As I had taken the camera home with me I decided to experiment and try to film an additional fridge magnet scene. As we had fridge magnet letters I spelt out certain words and took still images of this. I feel that this idea was interesting but maybe not executed to a very high standard.
August 30th - Filming Cancelled
We had initially planned to film on this day, but our actor James was unable to attend so we rescheduled for a later date.
September 1st - Female Actor
Both me and Ella had been discussing the idea of creating a “love scene” within our music video. So we began to search for a female drama student that fitted the look we wanted to create. We decided to ask our friend Esme if she would star in our film and thankfully she agreed to help us (:
September 3rd - Filming James & Esme
This was our final chance to film before we returned back to school. Both James and Esme were available and so were me and Ella so we decided to meet at Bungay High to begin to film. James unfortunately was not able to make this day of filming. We began this day of filming with a love scene at the park. We then went to Bungay Staithe to film James and Esme beside the river. We had forgotten the guitar this time so stopped off at Ella’s Nan’s house to pick up a guitar. I was very pleased with how this day of filming progressed and I think the filming looked very professional.
October - Editing & Website
Throughout the whole of October both myself and Ella have uploaded our filming so far upon the computer and have begun to place our scenes into order, this will be to create our initial draft cut. We will then be able to evaluate whether we need to film any more content or if there are any problems with continuity that needs fixing. I have also been working upon my CD cover and Magazine add throughout the month. We have been unable to film any more content for our music video, as many people from both our group and actors have been unwell or unable to make certain date due to work and other arrangements. Yet we have all decided to film within the half term the rest of the shots that are needed. To this point i am very happy with our progress, yet I did not expect for technology to hinder our progression so much for various reasons.
November - December - Editing
Throughout these two months both myself and Ella and James on certain occasions have been making progression into editing our music video. We began by cropping all of the shots to the correct length of time and then started work upon fitting the shots with the music. This was very difficult as the timing had to be perfect so that it looked as though James was actually singing the song.
December - February - Rough cut 1 and 2
Throughout these two months both myself and Ella carried on with the editing of our video to produce the best video possible. After creating our frist edit we rendered our video and then uploaded it onto YouTube. We then created a focus group and used these results to create our seond edit. We had filmed some other stop motion shots within the last week of January so we added these in also.
